PROF LASZLO MARODI

Head, Dept. of Infectology and Paediatric Immunology, University of Debrecen Medical and Health Science Centre

Prof László Maródi is Professor of Paediatrics and head of the Department of Infectious and Paediatric Immunology at the University of Debrecen Medical and Health Science Centre, Hungary. Prof Maródi's major field of interest is paediatric immunology and infectious diseases, and lysosomal storage diseases. His research activities focus on immunobiology of phagocytic cells, immunity of the human neonate, and molecular pathology of PIDs.

Prof Maródi has been President of the Hungarian Working Group for Paediatric Immunology for 20 years and was President of the 2006 Meeting of the European Society for Immunodeficiencies. He has been running a physician education program to improve care of patients with primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) in East-Central Europe and has established a Molecular Genetic Lab in Debrecen for evaluating mutations in PIDs of Hungarian and other Eastern-European patients. His Department has become one of the Jeffrey Modell PID Diagnostic Centres in Europe.
