MR BRIAN O'MAHONY
Irish Haemophilia Society
Brian O'Mahony has been active as a volunteer for the Irish Haemophilia Society since 1982 and served as Chairman from 1987 to 2003. He was president of the World Federation of Haemophilia from 1994 to 2004. Under his leadership, the WFH experienced tremendous growth in programmes and activity, and, gained importance and credibility as the recognized international organisation for the Bleeding Disorders community. A distinguished and respected lecturer, Mr O'Mahony has addressed the haemophilia community at many national and international meetings on various topics including political lobbying, treatment products, and global care. He has met with Health Ministers and Government officials in many countries to promote the availability of resources from Governments for sustainable haemophilia care. His publications include the Monograph's Plasma-derived and Biotech Products: What is the Future of Haemophilia Therapy? Haemophilia Societies: Challenges and Development, Guide to National Tenders for the Purchase of Clotting Factor Concentrates and Developing and Sustaining a Successful Lobbying Campaign.
Mr O'Mahony continues to work as a volunteer with WFH and currently serves on the board of the Irish Haemophilia Society and represents the organisation on the statutory National Haemophilia Council and Haemophilia Product selection Board. He provides advice and assistance to organisations and Governments on product procurement, advocacy and lobbying and strategic planning. Mr O'Mahony previously worked as a clinical biochemist. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences and the Academy of Medical Laboratory Sciences. He also has professional qualifications in management and in occupational health and safety. Mr O'Mahony, who has severe haemophilia B, lives in Dublin, Ireland, with his wife and two children.
