Professor of Paediatrics, University of Washington School of Medicine and Children's Hospital & Regional Medical Centre
Dr Hans Ochs studied medicine in Austria, France and Germany where he graduated from the University of Freiburg with a degree and doctorate in Medicine. Following a post doctoral position in the Department of BioChemistry at the University of Tubingen, he completed his residency in paediatrics and joined the University of Washington, first as a fellow in Immunology and then as a faculty of the Department of Paediatrics. The focus of his research is the molecular definition of primary immunodeficiency diseases and the investigation of new techniques to confirm the diagnosis. As a clinical scientist, Dr Ochs has initiated clinical trials for new immunoglobulin preparations for intravenous and subcutaneous infusions and has collaborated with the bone marrow transplant team in the design of new protocols for stem cell transplantation and gene therapy. He is the co-founder and member of the summer school devoted to primary immune deficiencies. His research is supported by an NIH merit award, The Immune Deficiency Foundation, The Jeffrey Modell Foundation and the USIDnet consortium.
