DR PETER VICKERS
Senior Lecturer, University of Hertfordshire
Dr Peter Vickers has long experience of working within the field of immunology, having nursed his first immune deficient child in 1984 in York, UK. This was followed by several years at the Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street, London, UK, where he worked within the isolation/immunology unit before becoming the Clinical Nurse Specialist for Paediatric Immunology at the hospital. Following a few years in Newcastle where he was involved with helping to set up the second specialist unit for paediatric immunology in the UK, he moved to Higher Education and gained his PhD looking at the long term effects that successful treatment for SCIDS has on the children and their families. He is now working as a senior lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire, UK, where, amongst other initiatives he has set up the first course (via distance learning) for nurses in immunology at undergraduate and Masters level.
