Treasurerof ESID, Chief Editor of ESID Newsletter; Consultant in Paediatric Immunology Jeroen Bosch Hospital (loc GZG)/s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands

Esther de Vries is Treasurer of the European Society for Immunodeficiencies (ESID), and Chief Editor of the ESID Newsletter. She received her paediatric training from 1986 to 1991 in Leiden, Tilburg, and Rotterdam, all in the Netherlands, gaining further paediatric experience at the neonatal intensive care department in Rotterdam. Subsequently she qualified as a paediatric immunologist at the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit in Leiden. She obtained her PhD degree in 1999 with the thesis Immunophenotyping of Lymphocytes in Healthy and Immunodeficient Children. In 2000 she spent a 3-months sabbatical leave at the Hôpital Necker in Paris with Prof Alain Fischer.

Esther works as a consultant in paediatric immunology and infectious diseases at the Jeroen Bosch Hospital in V Hertogenbosch, a large community and training hospital in the south of the Netherlands. Her research currently concentrates on the immunodeficiency of Down syndrome, and on patients with rare genetic disorders of the immune system.
