WELCOME
PIDs are currently an un-addressed public health issue in the EU. Through the EU PID Consensus Conference, the European Commission is supporting EU PID patient, physician and nurse networks to:
- Communicate to EU governments the extent of the negative impact PIDs currently have on healthcare systems and undiagnosed patients.
- Demonstrate the disparities of care and treatment that exist for people with PIDs across the EU.
- Provide examples of immediate actions and initiatives Member State governments can take to reduce the burden of PIDs
The EU PID Consensus Conference took place at the Paul Ehrlich Institute in Germany from 19-20 June 2006. The conference was attended by nurse, physician and patient representatives, journalists, industry representatives, policy makers and public health experts from across the EU and the US. The case for a public health approach to PIDs was made and a Consensus Statement, as well as official Recommendations and Report were developed. These were launched at the ESID/IPOPI/INGID Meeting on 5 October 2006 in Budapest (www.esid2006.com) and are available on this site.
