I’ve never been one to stereotype people, at least not overtly, but I have to say I was surprised by the telephone engineer my daughter brought home for me to meet. I was expecting a bookish, near sighted type of fellow in ill fitting pants, a buttoned up shirt complete with pocket protector and clip on tie. I could not have been more wrong. He looked more like a designer model than an engineer. I mentioned this to my daughter who gave me a don’t judge a book by its cover lecture in which she vociferously explained that just because a highly qualified engineer with excellent design skills and that ability to solve problems analytically plus had an appreciation for physics and could handle small and large scale projects for a variety of applications, did not mean that he had to spend all of his time chained to a desk.
